Please be sure to RSVP to WAStateAerospace@commerce.wa.gov with your attendance plans for the Sept. 2 meeting.
- Rogers will discuss with the Governor’s office the proposal to have more industry representation on the council. He will also discuss with the Governor what she would like the council’s role to be in endorsing specific proposals.
- Rogers will discuss at the next meeting how the council will make recommendations for the legislative session. If the council has items they should consider taking in to the legislative session, let Rogers know.
- Further input from the four aerospace organizations that met on June 23 will be presented at a future council meeting. The organizations were the Inland NW Aerospace Consortium, Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance, Pacific Northwest Defense Coalition, and the Aerospace Futures Alliance.
- In follow-up to Michael Zubovic’s presentation regarding the Snohomish County EDC’s supply chain gap analysis for WA, it was recommended that this group present at the next council meeting regarding the work performed already. It is important to see the final study and the opportunities that were identified. If there are key opportunities leading up to the Paris Air Show, we need to start coordinating now. As we get to hurdles and barriers we can sort them out. Patti Brooke will be the lead on this.
- Michael Zubovic has retired from ATS and is no longer on AFA Board. He would like to transition off of the Council and make his seat available to someone from the aerospace industry. Rogers will work on replacing this spot.
- Commerce will follow-up with Boeing’s UAV division to see what engineering and production activities are taking place in WA and what their future plans for UAVs are.
- Commerce will investigate whether Oregon offers a more competitive business environment for UAV production and related activities.
- John Gardner will provide the Council with a copy of the white paper that was provided to Secretary Vilsack regarding biofuels.
- Rogers asked what that the council could do to support the AltAir aviation biofuel project in WA. John Gardner suggested the council work directly with the congressional delegation and let them know the seriousness of this opportunity. John will also report back to the council at a future meeting regarding other opportunities.
Action Items/Assignments:
- Launch an outreach campaign to recruit middle school, high school, and college-age students highlighting careers in the aerospace industry. Maintain a web-based clearinghouse to provide information on post-secondary aerospace training programs offered throughout the state.
