Some experts predict growth for space industry

Investment News (7/14, Coen) reported, "Despite a slowing economy and some potential future funding obstacles, the space industry has nowhere to go but up," according to industry experts "at a recent space industry conference." Experts pointed to increased commercial interest in the industry, which "grew 11 percent to $251 billion" last year, nearly 70 percent of which was "growth.from commercial activity." Some also predicted that "the war on terrorism will drive revenue in space technology's military sector." Further, said Rob Stallard of Macquarie Capital Securities, the "support from lawmakers.for increased broadband services will buoy space sector revenue, especially for satellite companies." Stallard added, though, that "NASA could face funding cuts because other issues have taken priority in Washington," and said, "I wouldn't be surprised if it's a rocky road over the next couple years."
