Rocketry contest requires student teams to return eggs uncracked

The Detroit Free Press (5/11, Patton, Dawsey) reported that next Saturday 100 teams "chosen from a field of 643 teams from 43 states, based on performance in local qualification flights," will participate in the Team Rocketry Challenge that will take place Washington, D.C. The Rocketry Challenge is "an aerospace design and engineering contest for students in seventh through 12th grades," and requires that each team "design and build a rocket, weighing no more than 3.3 pounds, which has to carry two Grade A Large eggs 750 feet in the air in a maximum of 45 seconds." The rocket "has to return to Earth without so much as a cracked eggshell."
