Berlin, 31 July 2009 – Since the worldwide campaign canvassing for exhibitors, promoting the air show and distributing information began the organisers of ILA 2010 have noted that exhibitors are expressing high interest in the International Aerospace Exhibition. From 8 to 13 June 2010 the Berlin Air Show will be putting the latest products and services of this high-tech sector on display at Berlin-Schönefeld Airport. With the grounds currently undergoing expansion to create an even larger airport, Berlin Brandenburg International (BBI), ILA 2010 will be able to boast improved infrastructure and halls and chalets.
The first three days of the ILA (8 to 10 June) are reserved exclusively for trade visitors. The weekend open to the general public (11 – 13 June) will feature a spectacular air display programme with aircraft of all types and sizes, and will also be honouring the 100th anniversary of the world’s oldest air show with a special programme of show events.
With individual sectors of the aerospace industry physically and logistically concentrated in separate areas the ILA is able to target individual groups representing the industry unlike any other air show. Next year this concept will be broadened even further, with nine new sections at the show. They include Commercial Air Transport, Space Flight, Defence and Security, Equipment, Engines and Materials, alongside the International Suppliers Center (ISC), General Aviation incorporating the HeliCenter, the Career Center and an extensive conference programme. The Path of Innovation will be presenting selected innovation projects which focus on the environment.
The deadline for exhibitors is 28 February 2010. Exhibitors who register by 31 October 2009 will receive a 10 per cent Early Bird discount. The ILA Berlin Air Show 2010 is organised by the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) and Messe Berlin GmbH.
Forum for commercial aviation
The ILA offers all those representing the aerospace industry an outstanding forum for discussing forward-looking solutions. Manufacturers of aircraft and engines, members of airlines, airports, air traffic controllers, banks and service providers from all areas of the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) sector, as well as representatives of politics and administrations, are those who will have an outstanding opportunity to network here. In addition the ILA Conference Programme will debate aerospace industry issues such as economic efficiency and the environment.
Aerospace industry takes centre stage
Next year the international aerospace industry will again feature heavily at the ILA, an aspect which distinguishes it from other events. As a meeting place of decision-makers from politics, industry, agencies, research and science, as well as civil and military aviation, the ILA in particular mirrors the entire range of European aerospace activities. The most important European and German aerospace programmes and projects will be the main attraction at the ILA 2010 Space Pavilion, which is sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA), the Federal Ministry of Economics, the German Aerospace Center (DLR) and the German aerospace industry. Among the main topics will be space transport systems, propulsion systems, the International Space Station ISS and the European space laboratory Columbus. Other topics will include research under conditions in space, commercial aerospace satellites and systems for communication, navigation and earth observation, aerospace applications for defence and security purposes, as well as exploration. The Space Day will debate current issues regarding aerospace politics and take a look at space research. Other space conferences will take place in a special Space Conference and VIP Centre. The ILA also has a special area, the ILA Space World, near the space hall for international space agencies and selected exhibitors.
Trade fair platform for defence and security
With an international forum for defence and security ILA represents one of Europe’s most important trade fairs where defence and security politics are concerned. What characterises the ILA is that it promotes international dialogue with politics, the industry and the armed forces. International conferences with high-ranking participants from politics, the military and the industry are as much a part of the ILA as are air displays showing the latest weapons systems. The ILA 2010 also represents Europe’s most important industrial trade fair platform for networked guidance systems, space-based monitoring systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), maintenance, repair and overhaul, and flight training and simulation. The German armed forces – the air force, army and navy – make use of the opportunity offered by the ILA to display their capabilities, as with the joint deployment of weapons systems. High-ranking military delegations and aircraft from around the world are expected to be at the ILA 2010. The United States traditionally participates with the second largest contingent of armed forces behind the German Bundeswehr.
Innovative equipment, engines and materials
As leading partners of international programmes and driving forces behind innovation in the aerospace sector the industries manufacturing equipment, engines and materials are key exhibitors at the ILA. New technical challenges such as that of improving environmental compatibility and increasingly larger and more complex programmes and tasks necessitate a redistribution of responsibilities among leading aerospace companies and their suppliers. Suppliers are needed with their own systems, who have the technological and industrial capability to independently develop finished components and modules. Thus presenting new products, setting up joint ventures, meeting project managers and buyers, doing business with international customers and meeting members of politics, administrations and the media are items which are high on the agenda of suppliers taking part in the ILA. The ILA offers opportunities for B2B meetings among suppliers throughout the industrial chain, both at the Equipment, Engines and Materials section for systems providers and leading suppliers, and at the International Suppliers Center ISC for second and third-tier suppliers.
ISC with a Buyers’ Day
The International Suppliers Center ISC at the ILA sees itself as a “trade fair within the trade fair“. The dates are limited to the first three days (8 to10 June) of the event which are reserved exclusively for trade visitors. It offers international suppliers to the aviation, aerospace and defence industries an outstanding platform to present themselves to a wide expert audience, as well as to network and meet customers from around the world. The fact that the event is part of the ILA gives the supply industry an ideal opportunity to meet the leading international companies exhibiting there as well as the vast number of trade visitors from around the world (2008: 120,000). The International Buyers’ Day (9 June) will be a new feature in 2010, which will make it possible for ISC exhibitors to exclusively engage in direct B2B talks with buyers from leading international OEMs and first-tier suppliers. the ISC Forum gives participants access to the latest market information from leading players on the international stage and an opportunity to introduce their companies and services.
A shop window for general aviation
Germany and its neighbouring countries in Europe are among the world’s most important growth markets in Business & Corporate Aviation. The ILA takes the special requirements of suppliers and customers into account. Exhibitors can talk to customers and individual aircraft and fleet operators which they would otherwise rarely expect to meet at other trade fairs. Whether ultralight, training aircraft or passenger planes, the ILA General Aviation Avenue is the shop window for general aviation in central Europe. Distances are short at this trade fair section, which features a wide ranging programme, its own conferences, international marketing addressing trade visitors, and the option of arriving by private plane.
Exclusive HeliCenter
Set up as a “trade fair within the trade fair“ and with its exclusive area for helicopter manufacturers and operators, the ILA HeliCenter is an ideal marketing platform for helicopters and their civilian and military uses. The ILA HeliCenter also features a heliport operated independently from other air traffic and an individual conference programme. The key topics next year are air transport, air rescue, civil protection and disaster management, after sales service, MRO, flight training and the entire range of military uses.
Two-day Career Center
Particularly in times of economic recession it is important to present the aerospace sector as a forward-looking industry with long-term human resource policies. The large number of vacancies for aerospace systems engineers in Germany alone shows the need for the Career Center as a focal point for the topic of human resources and recruiting, where employers can directly meet with their future employees. Trade fair stands, a programme of papers in the conference rooms and a generous lounge area in a relaxing atmosphere will all be available on 11 and 12 June.
Wide-ranging conference programme
The ILA Berlin Air Show is the world’s leading trade fair and conference event for the aerospace industry. Last year there were around 100 national and international conferences representing all walks of the industry and 7,700 registered participants, confirmation that the Berlin Air Show is a leading event. A similarly wide-ranging and extensive conference programme focusing on all areas of the aerospace industry is being organised for the ILA 2010. Regular updates of the conference programme are available on the ILA website at www.ila-berlin.com/ila2010/konferenzen/start_e.cfm.
On course for the future – Path of Innovation
As in 2008 the ILA 2010 will be offering its visitors a Path of Innovation focusing on specific topics. It has its own logo and a navigation system directing visitors around the entire grounds to selected innovation projects at exhibitors’ stands at the ILA. The environment in the context of aerospace will be the key topic in 2010. Innovations due to be presented range from materials science, development of environmentally compatible engines and aircraft designs, to using space technology for protecting the environment and monitoring our climate.
Background information
Ever since it first took place in 1909 the ILA has ranked as the world’s oldest air show. It is organised by the German Aerospace Industries Association (BDLI) and is held by Messe Berlin GmbH. Since 1992 the ILA has been taking place in Berlin/Brandenburg every two years, comprehensively reflecting the aerospace industry at an international trade show and conference event that caters for the public as well. The ILA is also the only aerospace exhibition in Europe to act as a platform for markets in Western, Central and Eastern Europe. 1,127 exhibitors from 37 countries took part in the ILA2008, and some 241,000 trade visitors and members of the public witnessed the 330 aircraft they exhibited both on the ground and in the air.
