Gallois: Selling A380 To US Airlines A "Challenge"
The AP (6/9, Moulson, Vandore) interviewed EADS CEO Louis Gallois who reportedly said selling the A380 to US airlines "remains a challenge" to the company, even after a recent large purchase by Emirates Airlines was an "acid test" for the program. All of its orders so far are from foreign companies. "Airbus is now...hoping for a smoother ride for the A380, which has suffered costly delays." The company "hopes to get on top of two big projects that have been using up its engineering resources and bleeding cash - mastering the operational challenges of the A380 and finalizing contract changes with customers for the A400M military transport plane." As for the A400M, Gallois said that in a couple of years "there is a strong potential for export, because this airplane is absolutely alone in the market." The UK's Liverpool Daily Post (6/10, Jones) also covers the story.
