Engineering professionals encourage New York teens to pursue degrees

New York state's Star-Gazette (6/18, Aaron) reports that Tuesday, 20 Elmira Free Academy (EFA) "and Ernie Davis Middle School students heard about the benefits of working toward engineering degrees" at a presentation held by the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). According to the Star-Gazette, the "students, their parents and teachers were part of the first step taken by the Elmira City School District and Corning Inc.'s National Society of Black Engineers to establish career development and mentoring experiences for middle and high school students." Shelley Bailey, Elmira's career and technical education coordinator. said that the informational session will be followed during the summer months with job shadowing opportunities, internships and other hands-on programs aimed at students."
